Lusa - Business News - Brazil: Record tourist numbers in 2025, Portuguese at highest level since 2007

Brasilia, Jan. 9, 2026 (Lusa) - The number of Portuguese tourists in Brazil last year reached 273,483, the highest number recorded since 2007 and an increase of more than 25% compared to 2024, an official source told Lusa on Friday.

According to data provided to Lusa by the Brazilian International Tourism Promotion Agency (Embratur), the number of Portuguese who visited Brazil in 2025 was 25.25% higher than in 2024, when 218,354 Portuguese visited Brazil.

This figure is only surpassed by the 280,438 in 2007, according to Embratur.

After the French, with 293,000, the Portuguese are the Europeans who visited Brazil the most last year.

Brazil received 9.3 million foreign tourists in 2025, a record number and 37.1% higher than in 2024.

In addition to significantly exceeding the 6.8 million foreign tourists received in 2024, which was a record until now, Brazil also managed to far exceed the target (6.9 million) of visitors set for 2025.

"We exceeded all expectations and made 2025 the greatest year in the history of international tourism in Brazil. We brought to the world the mark of our authenticity, our diversity, the Brazilian “soft power” that has so enchanted the planet," said Embratur President Marcelo Freixo in a statement.

The good result was consolidated by the figures for December, at the beginning of the southern hemisphere summer and the main tourist season in Brazil, when the country received 896,488 foreign tourists, 11% more than in the same month in 2024.

The main countries of origin of tourists received by Brazil last year were Argentina (3,386,823), Chile (801,921), the United States (759,637), Paraguay (528,000) and Uruguay (524,000).
