Luanda, Jan. 9, 2026 (Lusa) - Angola earned US$1.8 billion (€1.5 billion) from diamond sales in 2025, up 21% from the previous year, Sodiam - Angola's National Diamond Trading Company - announced on Friday.
According to Sodiam's statement, these revenues are equivalent to the sale of 17.7 million carats of diamonds, an increase of 70.2% in volume compared to 2024.
The figures reflect "a significant expansion" in the capacity to place Angolan diamonds on the international market, due to the growth in production at the Luele mine, despite a significant 28.9% drop in the average selling price per carat, says the Angolan entity.
Last year, 17.2 million carats were exported, representing an increase of 68.9% compared to 2024, despite the market adversities experienced, marked by constant structural changes and changes in end consumer preferences.
"The results of rough diamond sales in 2025 confirm that Angola has adapted its commercial strategy to the transformations in the international diamond market, in a difficult global context for natural diamonds," the statement said.
According to Sodiam, the increase in sales volumes and revenues was the result of "more efficient sales management in light of the strategic decision not to build up stocks, contrary to what happened in 2024 at the Catoca and Luele mines."
