Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market trading at 16-year highs on Tuesday morning

Lisbon, Jan. 6, 2026 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market is trading higher on Tuesday morning, with the PSI at its highest since the beginning of 2010 and Galp rising 2.41% to €15.07.

At around 9:35 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Share Index) was holding its opening trend and was up 0.35% to 8,498.90 points, a new high since the beginning of 2010, with eight stocks down and eight up.

Galp shares were followed by those of NOS and Jerónimo Martins, which were on the rise, by 1.35% to €4.11 and 1.25% to €21.02.

Following the same trend, Teixeira Duarte, Mota-Engil and Sonae shares were up 0.62% to €0.65, 0.50% to €5.03 and 0.49% to €1.64.

Ibersol and REN shares were rising 0.20% to €9.96 and 0.15% to €3.28.

In the opposite direction, BCP, Semapa and Corticeira Amorim shares were falling 0.99% to €0.90, 0.98% to €21.40 and 0.88% to €6.77.

Shares in Altri, CTT and EDP Renováveis were down 0.77% to €4.53, 0.66% to €7.54 and 0.39% to €12.71.

The other two shares that fell in price were Navigator (-0.18% to €3.24) and EDP (-0.17% to €4.03).

 

The main European stock markets opened with widespread gains on a day when several economic indicators will be released, although investors continue to keep an eye on the consequences of the United States' attack on Venezuela.

The gains in Europe add to those achieved at the end of the Wall Street and Asian stock market sessions, which closed with the main indices rising sharply.

Among the highlights of the session are CPI data from Germany and France, as well as services PMI data from several European countries, the eurozone as a whole and the United States, where, in addition, the Redbook retail sales index will also be released.

Brent, the benchmark crude oil in Europe, for March delivery, is falling to US$61.43, compared to US$61.76 in the previous session.

The euro is stronger, rising to US$1.1729 on the Frankfurt foreign exchange market, compared to US$1.1715 on Monday and the new four-year high of US$1.1865 recorded on 16 September last year.
