ALGIERS - Air Algérie announced on Sunday that it has taken delivery of its second aircraft as part of its fleet renewal and expansion program.
The aircraft, received at Houari Boumediene International Airport, is an Airbus A330-900neo named "Gara Djebilet." This is the second of its kind to join the fleet, following the first delivery in November, which was named "Novembre 54" in tribute to the Algerian Revolution.
This aircraft is designated for long-haul routes, which the national carrier aims to boost by launching or expanding several flight connections, particularly to Canada, China, South Africa, and Malaysia.
The Airbus A330neo features a seating capacity of 308 passengers across three classes. It offers 25% lower fuel consumption and significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions compared to earlier generations. The cabin is also equipped with modern amenities, including high-speed Wi-Fi and the latest in-flight entertainment systems.
Following this acquisition, Air Algérie’s own fleet now stands at 56 aircraft, in addition to 15 aircraft operated by its subsidiary, Air Algérie Express. The fleet is slated for further expansion in the coming years.
This operation falls within the national carrier’s fleet renewal and expansion program launched in 2023. The plan includes the acquisition of eight Boeing 737 MAX-9 aircraft and ten Airbus A330-900neo aircraft (eight ordered initially).
The program also includes the purchase of 16 ATR 72-600 aircraft to enhance the domestic transport network through a newly dedicated regional subsidiary.
These measures are part of Air Algérie's strategic action plan through 2035, which involves continuous fleet modernization to meet rising demand for air travel both domestically and internationally.
