Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Motorway tolls to increase by 2.29% on 1 January

Lisbon, Dec. 31, 2025 (Lusa) – Tolls on the A1 motorway between Lisbon and Porto will increase by 45 cents to €25.05, rising by a further 50 cents on the A2 motorway between Lisbon and the Algarve to €23.80, from 1 January, according to a statement from Brisa.

The A2/A6 - Marateca/Caia route for Class 1 vehicles will also see an increase of 35 cents, to €15.40.

The concessionaire indicated that toll rates will be updated by 2.29% in 2026, which "is based, as stipulated in the concession contract, on the year-on-year inflation rate, mainland excluding housing, for October and the additional 0.1% provided for in Decree-Law No. 87-A/2022".

Brisa stressed that, as in recent years, in 2026 there are "cases of toll rates that show a variation below the average or even zero".

"In other cases, toll rates show a variation above the average, as they have not been updated in previous years," it said.

According to Brisa, 40 of the 93 toll rates applied to Class 1 vehicles will be updated in 2026, with 57% of the total tolls applicable on the BCR network remaining unchanged from 2025.

Among the routes whose prices remain unchanged are trips from Lisbon to Oeiras or from Ermesinde to Valongo.

On 12 November, it was reported that motorway tolls were expected to increase by 2.29% in 2026, based on the year-on-year inflation rate excluding housing on the mainland in October, as reported by the National Statistics Institute (INE), plus 0.1% compensation to concessionaires.

Brisa also announced that it plans to invest €64 million in its network in 2026, with the main maintenance works covering motorways throughout the country, including "improvements to pavements and the rehabilitation of viaducts and embankments, among other works".

"Some of the A2 service areas will see an increase in parking capacity for light vehicles and the provision of electric vehicle charging stations will be reinforced where there has been greater demand," it also said.

The Brisa Group and Via Verde recently announced that the Oeiras Service Area on the A5 now has a new supercharger hub for electric vehicles.

Brisa also highlighted in the press release that, for the first half of 2026, Via Verde plans to install another new supercharger hub at the A3 service area in Trofa, in the Porto Metropolitan Area.
