Cancer deaths have fallen by 9% in Italy over the last 10 years, the Italian Association of Oncologists said in a report on Thursday.
It said this was better than the EU average and translates into five-year increase in the survival rate.
The association said around 390,000 cancer cases will have been diagnosed here this year, a figure that is stable compared to 2024.
But it also said there is a north-south divide when it comes to cancer treatments.
It said 15% of women in southern Italy who need breast surgery move out of their home regions to have it, a figure that rises to almost 50% for Calabria.
