"Donnarumma is the first Italian to win this title since Gianluigi Buffon in 2017, proving that he is a worthy successor," Fifa President Gianni Infantino said in an Instagram post.
Donnarumma, who moved to Manchester City in the closed season, said it was "a real honor to receive this award.
