The extraordinary commissioners of Acciaierie d'Italia (ADI), the group that owns the plants of the former ILVA steel group, including what used to be Europe's biggest steelworks in Taranto, said Friday that they have received two bid from companies interested in taking them over.
It said the first came from Miami-based investment company The Flacks Group, while the second, which arrived after the midnight deadline, was presented by Bedrock Industries.
The commissioners will now examine the proposals.
ADI has been run by State-appointed administers since ArcelorMittal's acrimonious exit in January last year.
The troubled Taranto factory has been dogged by economic problems in recent years and linked to high cancer rates in the Puglia port city.
The government recently withdrew a plan for the Taranto plant, which included up to 6,000 redundancies, after fierce protests and a strike by unions, which said it amounted to a death sentence.
