Lusa - Business News - Angola: Portugal's Mota-Engil part of consortium to run new Luanda airport

Luanda, Dec. 12, 2025 (Lusa) - The consortium led by Corporación América Airports (CAAP), which includes Portugal's Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção África S.A., will manage the new António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) for 25 years, the Angolan government has announced.

According to the Angolan Ministry of Transport, the concession for the operation, management, and maintenance of AIAAN was awarded to the consortium in a process conducted by the ministry in strict compliance with the legal and technical parameters applicable in Angola.

The ministry said in a statement that the concession has an initial term of 25 years and may be renewed for a further 15 years, highlighting that the international investor achieved the best overall rating (93.25 points out of 100), demonstrating "technical capacity, financial strength and proven experience in managing airport infrastructure in an integrated manner".

CAAP, based in Luxembourg and internationally recognised for its "economic stability and regulatory rigour", is a leader in private airport management and combines technical excellence with proven operational capacity in the modernisation and expansion of airport infrastructure, the statement said.

For Angola's Transport Minister, Ricardo de Abreu, quoted in the statement, the award of this concession marks a "unique and historic" moment for Angola and for the civil aviation system in particular.

AIAAN is a "crucial" infrastructure for transforming our country into a "true continental air hub, boosting passenger and cargo transport in Africa and between Africa and the world. This project will have a direct impact on economic growth, boosting sectors such as trade, services and tourism, and strengthening the international presence of the “Visit Angola” brand," he noted.

This result reaffirms the Ministry of Transport's commitment to the modernisation and competitiveness of the sector, reinforcing the executive's commitment to the sustainable development of the country's strategic infrastructure and to positioning Angola as a relevant air platform on the African continent and in the world," the minister added.

Mota-Engil is a Portuguese conglomerate, a leader in the civil construction, public works, port operations, waste, water and logistics sectors.
