Lisbon, Dec. 12, 2025 (Lusa) - Portuguese rail freight carrier Medway will start operations in France on Sunday, 14 December, transporting raw materials between Caffiers and Dunkirk, it said in a statement on Friday.
According to the rail freight carrier, entering the French market is a ‘historic moment’ that allows direct connections to nine countries - Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Switzerland and Austria - and strengthens ‘the group's position in the European rail market’.
Medway also states that its presence in the French port of Dunkirk opens up opportunities for intermodal traffic and bulk cargo.
Medway (formerly CP Carga) has been part of MSC Rail, a subsidiary of the Swiss international giant Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), since 2016, following its privatisation. It is Portugal's largest rail freight operator, with a market share of around 90%.
