Lisbon, Dec. 12, 2026 (Lusa) - More than half of the flights scheduled to depart from Madeira Island on Friday until mid-afternoon have been cancelled due to weather conditions, with only the 6:00 a.m. flight to Shannon, Ireland, having departed.
According to data available on the Madeira Airport website, by 7:45 a.m., 11 departures and 11 arrivals had been cancelled.
The information on the website indicates that weather forecasts indicate adverse conditions that may affect operations (departures and arrivals) until Saturday.
Passengers are asked to confirm the status of their flight before heading to the airport.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued an orange warning (the second most serious) for today due to the wind on the north coast, with gusts of up to 130 kilometres per hour expected.
The warning is active until at least 6 p.m., after which it will be downgraded to yellow.
As for rough seas, the IPMA has issued the most serious warning (red) from 9 p.m. today until 6 p.m. on Saturday.
