Lusa - Business News - Portugal: EU disburses €1.06B under Recovery and Resilience Facility

Brussels, Nov. 26, 2025 (Lusa) - The European Commission disbursed €1.06 billion in grants to Portugal on Wednesday, following its seventh payment request under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF).

According to a statement from the EU government, this payment covers 27 targets and milestones in sectors such as health, housing, forest fire management, renewable energy and improvements to the business environment.

The funds support measures including the purchase of medical equipment, the refurbishment of hydroelectric power stations in Madeira and the development of publicly accessible electric vehicle charging stations.

Portugal's Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), supported by a total financing package of €21.9 billion (€16.3 billion in grants and €5.6 billion in loans), has now reached a disbursement rate of 62%.

In addition to Portugal, MFF instalments were also paid to Greece (€2.1 billion), Austria (€515.5 million) and Slovenia (€439.7 million), following positive assessments of the implementation of their respective RRPs.

The RRF is a temporary instrument and the central detail of the EU's recovery plan, NextGenerationEU, created to mitigate the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mechanism provides grants and loans to Member States to support reforms and investments that promote the green and digital transition and make economies and societies more sustainable and resilient.
