NNA - The official committee overseeing the visit of Pope Leo XIV held a press conference at the Presidential Guard Brigade’s Protocol Hall in Baabda, detailing logistical, security, and media arrangements for the three-day papal visit.
The committee announced that 21 artillery rounds will be fired upon the Pope’s arrival, and urged citizens wishing to attend the Beirut Mass to arrive as early as 5:00 a.m.
The Chief of Staff of the Presidential Guard Brigade called for full public cooperation with security agencies, early attendance to avoid congestion, and adherence to strict safety measures, no flammable objects, no drones, and only Vatican or Lebanese flags allowed.
He stressed that security inspections will take place at all entry points and along the Pope’s routes, with additional specialized personnel deployed. Roads will close only moments before the papal motorcade passes and will reopen immediately afterward.
Brigadier General Joseph Massalem outlined Day One logistics: arrival at the airport, transfer to Baabda Palace, and then to the Apostolic Nunciature.
Presidential Palace Media Office Director Rafic Chlala announced that 1,350 journalistsfrom Lebanon and abroad have registered to cover the visit.
The committee noted that more than 120,000 people are expected to attend the Mass and advised bringing umbrellas in case of rain. Those without registration or entry passes may gather in the outer perimeter along Beirut’s waterfront.
