APS - Algeria-EU relations enter new phase of concrete cooperation, says ambassador

ALGIERS, 11 November 2025 (APS) - The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Algeria, Pascua Mellado, announced on Tuesday that relations with Algeria have "entered a new phase of genuine cooperation."

Speaking at a ceremony launching an institutional twinning program between the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, aimed at exchanging expertise to boost investment attraction and national economic development, Ambassador Mellado described the project as a key component of the "strategic partnership between Algeria and the EU, designed to enhance economic growth and attract productive investment."

"It offers a valuable opportunity to share experiences and develop joint industrial projects based on technology transfer and value chain modernization, thereby strengthening AAPI’s institutional capacities and creating a more competitive and attractive investment environment," he said.

Ambassador Mellado emphasized that Algeria-EU relations are now shifting toward "concrete cooperation through the implementation of joint projects," especially amid geopolitical and economic shifts prompting Europe to redeploy its industries and deepen partnerships.

"Algeria is a strategic partner in this regard," he stressed.

For her part, Anne-Sophie Leig, Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Algeria, stated that the initiative "exemplifies the strength of European cooperation in supporting Algeria’s efforts to improve its investment climate."

She highlighted that "Algeria-Germany relations are rooted in a long-standing partnership that has significantly advanced in areas such as energy, industry, and sustainable development particularly in the context of Algeria’s ongoing economic transformation, which focuses on diversification and openness to new cooperation and investment opportunities."

The project manager noted that this collaboration "reflects the close partnership among Algeria, Germany, and the EU," underscoring the German ministry’s commitment to working with AAPI to bolster investment and build a more competitive Algerian economy.

Mohamed Soumani, Director of Cooperation with the EU at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, praised "the diversity and strategic depth of Algeria-Europe relations, marked by vibrant human and economic momentum."

He reaffirmed "Algeria’s strong commitment to various EU cooperation programs and projects, aimed at leveraging the EU’s expertise through knowledge and technology transfer, especially in attracting foreign investment."
