Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Web Summit begins Monday with over 900 speakers

Lisbon, Nov. 10, 2025 (Lusa) - The Web Summit kicks off in Lisbon on Monday with more than 900 speakers and 70,000 participants, according to organisers, an event where artificial intelligence (AI) remains in the spotlight.

This year's edition, the 9th since the technology “summit” began taking place in the Portuguese capital, is expected to attract more than 70,000 participants, over 2,500 start-ups showcasing their products and services and more than 1,000 investors.

At the event, which runs until November 13, the organisation expects "more than 900 speakers to gather in Lisbon".

Among the key themes of this year's edition are programming based on “vibe coding”, which uses AI to generate code, where it will be discussed whether this is the next big leap or the death of programming, and who controls AI and who receives it.

As AI models are trained with online content, the competition for access and profit intensifies, says the Web Summit.

Governments in the age of artificial intelligence, China's silent influence on global innovation, data centres and new energy requirements are other topics highlighted at the event.

Meo is once again a technology partner and sponsor of the Web Summit, providing fixed, mobile and Wi-Fi coverage.

The summit kicks off with the usual "Opening Night", attended by the Deputy Minister for State Reform, Gonçalo Matias, and the Mayor of Lisbon, Carlos Moedas, as well as the well-known tennis player Maria Sharapova, among others.

In 2024, the Web Summit in Lisbon registered a record 71,528 participants from 153 countries.

The “summit” kicked off in the Portuguese capital in 2016 and is to be held in Lisbon until 2028.
