Miami, United States, Sept. 17, 2025 (Lusa) - Portuguese musicians Camané and Janeiro have been nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, which will be presented on 13 November in Las Vegas, United States, it was announced on Wednesday.
Fado singer Camané is nominated for his album ‘Ao vivo no CCB - Homenagem a José Mário Branco’ in the category of ‘Best Portuguese Language Roots Music Album’, while Janeiro is nominated for the Latin Grammy for ‘Best Contemporary Pop Album in Portuguese Language’ with his album ‘Fugacidade’.
Camané had already been nominated for the Latin Grammys in 2020, together with pianist Mário Laginha, with the album ‘Aqui está-se sossegado’, based on the fado repertoire.
For musician Janeiro, this is a debut in the Latin Grammy nominations, which he reaches with his third solo album of original songs.
Last April, Camané was honoured at the Play Awards, the Portuguese music awards, in the category of ‘Best Fado Album’ with this live album, released on the Warner Music Portugal label.
The album includes 18 songs with poems by David Mourão-Ferreira, Alexandre O'Neill, Manuela de Freitas and José Mário Branco himself, all set to music by him.
In an interview with Lusa in 2024, when the album was released, Camané recalled his two decades of learning and working with the singer-songwriter, arranger and producer, who died in 2019.
"He created a sound for me, even in traditional fados, in my fado, he helped me create that sound. […] I feel that José Mário was another teacher I had in my life," said Camané, 58.
Henrique Janeiro, 31, born in Coimbra and who signs his music with just his surname, released “Fugacidade” in September last year, which is the "corollary of experiences from recent years", as stated in the album's presentation text.
Ten years ago, the musician released his debut EP, ‘Janeiro’, recorded in a home studio. His first album, ‘Frag.men.tos’, came out in 2018, the year he participated in the Song Festival with the song ‘(untitled)’.
With a sound that mixes Portuguese song, Brazilian popular music, jazz and electronica, Janeiro also released the album ‘Sem Tempo’ in 2020, as well as an acoustic version of it, entitled ‘Com Tempo’.
He then released, in collaboration with Brazilian musician Paulo Novaes, the EP ‘Proto-colar, vol.1’ and the album ‘Proto-colar, vol.2’.
Currently working on a new album, due to be released in 2026, Janeiro is also dedicated to music production and sound design.
The 26th edition of the Latin Grammys is led by Puerto Rican musician Bad Bunny, with 12 nominations for the album ‘DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS (DTMF)’.
Bad Bunny will perform in Portugal on 26 and 27 May 2026, at the Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, and these concerts are part of an international tour dedicated to that nominated album.
The musician is nominated in categories such as ‘Album of the Year’ or ‘Best Recording’ and ‘Song of the Year’, in these cases with a double nomination in each with the songs ‘Baile Inolvidable’ and ‘DTmF’.
Also noteworthy on the list of Latin Grammy nominees is Brazilian trans artist Liniker, who has six nominations for her album ‘Caju’.
Liniker, who in 2022 was the first trans woman to win a Latin Grammy, will perform on 10 October at the Meo Arena in Lisbon and the following day at the Pavilhão Rosa Mota in Porto.
