Italy's annual inflation rate fell to 1.6% in August, down from 1.7% in July, Istat said on Tuesday, confirming its preliminary estimate.
The national statistics agency said the drop was driven by a fall in energy prices of 4.8%, compared to a 3.4% decrease in July.
Food prices, in the other hand, accelerated, going to +3.8% from +3.7%.
Istat said its consumer price index was up 0.1% in month-on-month terms The agency said its 'shopping trolley' index of the prices for food, household goods, and personal care products rose from 3.2% to 3.4%.
