TIRANA, September 4/ATA/ There has been a new encirclement to the medieval city of Sarda confirming a defense system of three walls. This was found out by the archaeologists during the excavations and research in the quiet isle of Shurdhah in Vau i Dejës lake.
Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodra said that there was an Albanian-French research project led by archaeologists Etleva Nallbani and Elvana Metalla.
The purpose of the project is to document the structures of the medieval city and explore an upper city.
The project has been a cooperation with Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Shkodra and has been going on for years with a focus on the medieval residents of the area, the funeral practice and the interregional exchanges.
In context of the research, there was carried out even the cleaning of the territory from the dense vegetation.
The archaeological researches are being held in context of the project: Drini Valley in Medieval Times”, which is realized by École française de Rome, Centre National de Recherche Scientifique, Ministère de l’Europe et des affaires étrangères, INRAP, Institute of Archaeology, in cooperation with the University of Tirana and Shkodra Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage. /a.f//r.e/p.s./
