TIRANA, September 3 /ATA/ The Neurosurgery Service at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center in Tirana is now equipped with the “Aesculap Aeos” digital microscope. It replaces the previous equipment and introduces one of the most advanced technologies for brain and spinal surgery.
Accompanied by General Director of the hospital center Florenc Spaho, Minister of Health and Social Protection Albana Koçiu was today in the premises of this service, where she got closely acquainted with the benefits that this investment brings for doctors and patients.
Koçiu emphasized that this government investment improves the safety and efficiency of interventions for patients, while also serving as a valuable training tool for young doctors, who can directly follow the operations from the monitor.
The minister emphasized that during 2024 alone, there were performed around 1,700 interventions in this service, with around 30% of them requiring the use of a microscope.
“I am glad that we were able to offer something, such cutting-edge technology that also serves in brain interventions. According to statistics for 2024, there were performed almost 1,700 interventions in the neurosurgery service, of which 600 with the optical microscope that was there before,” said the minister.
Meanwhile, with the latest technology microscope, Koçiu emphasized that “The interventions will also become more precise, more accurate and increasingly avoid all the complications that come as a result of surgical interventions.”
Neurosurgeon Artur Xhumari explained that now we no longer work with the usual microscope that was mechanical and optical, but the new microscope is robotic and digital and this is a big step.
According to Dr. Xhumari, “We need a microscope during surgery in about 25% of the requests.”
“They have infrared lighting that allows us to see both the arteries and any small tumors that we may have. So we remove more tumors and life expectancy becomes longer”, he said. /r.e//a.f/p.s./
