An 1.12-billion-euro fine imposed late in 2021 on Amazon for abuse of its dominant market position by the Italian Antitrust authority was cut in half by the Lazio Regional Administrative Court (TAR) on Tuesday after the online retail giant appealed to it.
The court ruled that the reasons for the fine on Amazon for allegedly using its dominant position for the "self-preferencing" of its logistics services over competitors in this sector were valid.
But it struck down a 50% increase imposed by Antitrust authority because the case regarded a company whose "total worldwide turnover is particularly high in relation to the value of sales of the goods or services that are the subject of the infringement".
