Cabinda, Angola, Sept. 2, 2025 (Lusa) - The Cabinda Provincial Government has a new administrative headquarters costing around €40 million, which was inaugurated on Tuesday by Angola's President, João Lourenço, as part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of National Independence.
"The inauguration of the building is also part of the programme to modernise local public administration and improve the working conditions of civil servants," according to a statement published by the Presidency's press centre.
Located in the Marien Ngouabi neighbourhood, the new building was built with an investment of $30.9 million (around €28.7 million) and received an additional $9.8 million (around €9.1 million) for equipment.
The 142-room facility, spread over nine floors, brings together all the services of the provincial government in a single space, with the aim of "facilitating the coordination of administrative activities" and improving service to the public.
On Monday, the Angolan head of state also inaugurated the Cabinda refinery, a strategic project aimed at reducing the country's dependence on fuel imports, the first phase of which is expected to process 30,000 barrels per day.
During his visit, which ends today, João Lourenço held a meeting with the provincial government, during which they discussed concerns such as illegal immigration, sanitation in the city, which is frequently affected by flooding during the rainy season, and the hiring of teachers and technical health staff, including doctors and nurses.
The governor of Cabinda, Suzana Fernanda de Abreu, presented a report on the general state of the province, announcing projects such as the creation of an Integrated Technical Training Centre (CINFOTEC) and the rehabilitation of sports infrastructures, including the Tchiaze stadium.
The province's main stadium, built at the time of the 2010 CAN, was continually vandalised until it became unplayable, an attitude that was strongly condemned, and the President of the Republic drew the authorities' attention to the "imperative" need to look after the heritage.
