Barreiro, Portugal, Aug. 27, 2025 (Lusa) - A man was injured in Barreiro on Wednesday following shots fired by his brother-in-law during an argument on the street, and the attacker has barricaded himself in his house, according to the Public Security Police (PSP).

Speaking to the Lusa news agency, the deputy commissioner of the Setúbal PSP explained that the wounded man was shot four times, three times in the lower back and once in the buttock, and was taken to the Nossa Senhora do Rosário hospital in Barreiro, in the Setúbal district.

The incident took place at 1.30 p.m. in the Barreiro Velho area, near the Public Security Police station, and eight shots were fired, he added.

The man who barricaded himself in the house did not take any hostages, but may have been accompanied by family members, said the PSP.

The PSP is conducting an operation at the scene with members from the Special Police Unit (UEP), the Intervention Corps, the special operations group, and negotiators.

The same source stated that the argument between the two men occurred after the victim threatened to denounce the suspect for allegedly possessing a warehouse of counterfeit materials.
