Maputo, Aug. 27, 2025 (Lusa) - On Tuesday in Maputo, Mozambique's government and the Qatar-based conglomerate Al Mansour Holding signed a strategic cooperation agreement worth $20 billion (€17.1 billion) to be applied in various economic and social areas.
According to a note from the Mozambican presidency, “the $20 billion agreement covers a wide range of priority areas”, namely agriculture, livestock, fisheries, oil and gas, renewable energies, the construction of roads, railways and logistics centres, as well as the building of social housing and hospital units.
"The agreement also includes investments in the social and tourism sectors, with the construction of social housing, schools, hotels and resorts, as well as sustainable coastal projects," concluded the Mozambican Presidency.
Today, on the sidelines of the signing of the cooperation agreement in Maputo, Sheikh Mansour Al Thani, representative of Al Mansour Holding and a member of the Qatari ruling family, said: "Our two regions are united by history, culture and faith. But today, more than ever, we are united by a common destiny: to transform the natural wealth of our lands and the talents of our people into engines of development that will last for generations," he said.
According to Al Thani, true development is not measured by short-term gains, but by projects that leave a legacy, create jobs "today and hope for tomorrow", empower young people, uplift communities and ensure that prosperity reaches every corner of society.
"We are committed to supporting sustainable development through initiatives that strengthen communities, create meaningful jobs and provide young people with opportunities for education, vocational training and employment. Development is the strongest guarantee of lasting prosperity, and together we will build it," he said.
The representative also called for unity, "as a single community", between Mozambique and Qatar, to mould a future where Africa and the Middle East grow together, in a future where "opportunities know no borders", innovation drives progress, every citizen, especially the youth, "has a role to play in building strong and resilient societies".
