Lisbon, Aug. 26, 2025 (Lusa) - The Portuguese stock market was 0.54% lower on Tuesday morning at 7,874.23 points, in line with the rest of the European markets and with Mota-Engil and CTT falling more than 3% and 2% respectively.
At 09:30, of the 15 companies listed on the main index, the PSI, 11 were in the red, two were unchanged (Ibersol and Jerónimo Martins, at €9.82 and €21.04, respectively), and another two were in positive territory.
Mota-Engil's shares led the losses (-3.19% to €4.87), followed by CTT, which fell 2.59% to €7.53.
Also falling more than 1% were BCP (-1.82% to €0.75), Semapa (-1.10% to €18.00) and REN (-1.01% to €2.95).
Altri, Corticeira Amorim, Sonae, Navigator, NOS and Galp Energia fell 0.77%, 0.51%, 0.30%, 0.29%, 0.25% and 0.06%, respectively, to €5.14, €7.82, €1.31, €3.38, €3.97 and €16.44.
EDP Renováveis and parent company EDP followed, with gains of 0.77% to €10.45 and 0.18% to €3.83.
The Lisbon stock exchange opened today's session down 0.45% to 7,881.43 points, after having already closed down on Monday, with the benchmark PSI index falling 0.79% to 7,917.15 points.
Lisbon was in line with the main European stock markets, which also opened lower on Tuesday, reacting to the political instability in France and the fall on Wall Street on Monday.
Shortly before 09:00 in Lisbon, the EuroStoxx 600 was down 0.71% to 554.83 points. The Paris stock exchange led the losses, falling 2.18%, while London fell 0.63%, Frankfurt 0.51%, Milan 0.84% and Madrid 0.67%.
Contributing to these falls is the motion of confidence tabled by the French prime minister, François Bayrou, which will be voted on 8 September, due to the difficulties in approving the budget cuts he has proposed.
In addition, Wall Street fell on Monday, and the Asian stock markets this morning.
On the New York Stock Exchange, the main indices fell: the Dow Jones Industrials fell 0.77%, the SP&500 lost 0.43% and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.22%.
Futures on these indices were down 0.15 %.
It was also reported that US President Donald Trump decided to sack Federal Reserve (Fed) Governor Lisa Cook over accusations of falsifying documents on mortgage applications. However, Cook has said she will not resign from her post.
In Asia, there were also losses: Tokyo fell 0.97%, Seoul 0.95% and Shanghai 0.39%, while Hong Kong fell 0.95%.
Investors are paying attention today to the publication in the US of data on durable goods orders for July and consumer confidence for August.
In commodities, the price of a barrel of Brent oil fell 0.67% to $68.34.
The yield on long-term German debt fell by almost three basis points to 2.73% and the troy ounce of gold was up 0.35% at $3,377.9.
Bitcoin was trading at $110,340, an increase of 0.68%, after falling below $110,000 for the first time since the beginning of July.
