TIRANA, July 29 /ATA/ - Over 45 iconographic works from Albania’s National Museum of Medieval Art in Korçë will go on display in a unique exhibition in the historic French city of Chambéry, Economy, Culture, and Innovation Minister Blendi Gonxhja announced Tuesday.
The exhibition will be held at the Fine Arts Museum in Chambéry, where selected icons from the Korçë museum’s collection will be showcased to French and international audiences, Gonxhja said.
He emphasized that the project is part of ongoing cultural cooperation between Albania and France and will be incorporated into the French Scientific Committee, strengthening institutional exchanges between the two countries’ museums.
“This exhibition marks an important step toward the internationalization of Albanian art and reinforces Korçë’s status as a key center of medieval art in Southeastern Europe,” Gonxhja added.
The National Museum of Medieval Art holds a collection of more than
8,200 museum objects, including 6,400 icons, making it home to one of the largest icon collections in the world - a rare treasure of Albanian and global cultural heritage.
The exhibition will run from May to October 2026 in Chambéry, before moving to another French city until March 2027.
