Lusa - Business News - Portugal: NOS launches new business area dedicated to digital risk monitoring

Lisbon, June 2, 2025 (Lusa) - NOS has launched a new business area dedicated to digital risk monitoring, CyberInspect, which is starting with 10 specialists and a market of over 100,000 companies, its manager told Lusa on Monday.

This new business area is dedicated to digital risk monitoring through the development of a comprehensive cybersecurity testing platform that provides a complete assessment of digital vulnerabilities.

"In this initial phase, there will be around 10 people, including product, development, cybersecurity and customer support specialists," Duarte Sousa Lopes, head of CyberInspect, told Lusa, adding that it will also have "the support of NOS in other areas such as finance, legal and information systems."

According to NOS, CyberInspect is democratising cybersecurity testing "so that it becomes accessible to all companies, allowing any organisation to identify risks and threats in a very simplified way and receive support in identifying solutions".

When asked about expectations for the first year of activity, particularly with the entry into force of the European cybersecurity directive (NIS2), he said that CyberInspect's ambition is to be recognised as a leader in its field.

"We estimate that the addressable market will eventually exceed 100,000 companies with digital exposure, which will gradually recognise the importance of understanding the risk they are exposed to and will want to take action to reduce their vulnerabilities," he said.

With the entry into force of NIS2, "the number of companies looking for solutions will increase very quickly, particularly due to the need for essential service providers to assess risk in their supply chains," he added.

"We have the ambition to be recognised as leaders in this space, for which we will continue to expand our services," he summarised.

As for whether the business will be centred in Portugal, Duarte Sousa Lopes said that "in the first phase" he believes the Portuguese market has "great potential" to explore, "using the NOS group's network of business channels and a network of recognised partners in the market".

In addition, "learning in our market will certainly contribute to a potential path to internationalisation, given the ability of the CyberInspect concept to serve other markets where regulatory needs and obligations are similar," he stressed.

This launch "involved a significant investment, considering the work of a large team over more than a year, based on NOS's expertise in cybersecurity," he said, without giving details.

"This resulted in the development of a new generation digital platform, as well as the integration of different technologies and systems," he concluded.

According to the official, "the risk of cybercrime will continue to increase rapidly due to the use of automation and artificial intelligence by attackers. Some recent studies indicate that only about 15% of SMEs feel prepared for a cyberattack."
