ZAGREB, 13 May (Hina) - HŽ Passenger Transport announced that on Tuesday it will put into service the first battery-powered electric train train in Croatia, which was produced as part of the project "Application of green technologies in railway passenger transport", and the total value of the project is €17.1 million.
This project is financed from the 2021-2026 National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), and as part of it, a battery-powered train and six charging stations were produced. The train will run on the Zagreb-Bjelovar-Zagreb route.
The battery-electric train has 157 seats and 158 standing places. It is equipped with three pairs of double doors, wheelchair ramps, space for bicycles, an audio-visual passenger information system and video surveillance, and passengers on the train are provided with free internet access. On the electrified part of the network, it reaches a maximum speed of 160 kilometres per hour, and on the non-electrified part of the network, 120 km.
The purchase of battery-powered trains, HŽ Passenger Transport points out, enables the organisation of rail passenger transport on non-electrified lines in an environmentally-friendly way.
Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Oleg Butković will be present for the first ride of the battery-electric train, together with HŽ Passenger Transport CEO Željko Ukić, CEO of Končar Electrical Industries Gordan Kolak, and their associates.
