TIRANA, May 10/ATA/ The Lead Mosque in Shkodra, one of the rarest monuments of our cultural heritage, is restored and now it’s more beautiful than ever before.
Following the restoration with care and passion, this architectural gem now stands majestically near the Rozafa Castle, in the heart of the historical area of Shkodra.
Prime Minister Edi Rama shared today a view from the restoration of the Lead Mosque and wrote that it is now saved from the chronic flooding and has become a shining jewel.
“A masterpiece of Islamic architecture and our cultural heritage, the Lead Mosque in Shkodra, which has amazed historians for its original style, is saved from the chronic flooding and ruin and has become a shining jewel elegantly presented to the eyes of believers and numerous visitors,” Rama wrote.
The Lead Mosque in Shkodra, built in 1773-1774, is the largest Ottoman mosque in all of Albania, a First Category Cultural Monument.
The restoration works of this unique mosque in Shkodra included also the transformation of the surrounding space.
After the restoration, the Mosque, built by the renowned architect Sinani, is expected to become another tourist attraction for the city. /p.s./
