ANSA - Cinema: Delpero's Vermiglio triumphs at Donatello awards

Intimate epic drama scoops seven gongs, including best film

Maura Delpero's intimate drama Vermiglio was the big winner at this year's David di Donatello cinema awards, scooping seven prizes, including best film and best direction.
The film, which made the shortlist for the best international feature film for the 2025 Academy Awards but failed to win a nomination, is set at the end of World War II in an Alpine village where the arrival of a soldier disrupts the relationship between three sisters.
The best actress in a lead role prize at the 70th David di Donatello awards, Italy's equivalent of the Oscars, went to Tecla Insolia for her performance in Valeria Golino's L'Arte della Gioia (Art of Joy).
The best lead actor gong went to Elio Germano for his portrayal of late former Italian Communist Party leader Enrico Berlinguer in Andrea Segre's The Great Ambition.
