Baku - May 7, 2025 - (MAP) - Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, President of the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, visited the International Mugham Center in Baku on Tuesday. This emblematic institution is dedicated to the preservation, transfer, and upholding of this ancestral musical art, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Upon her arrival, Her Royal Highness was greeted by the Azerbaijani Minister of Culture, Adil Karimli; Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid; ambassador of His Majesty the King to Baku, Mohamed Adil Embarch; ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Morocco, Nazim Samadov; Secretary General of the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, Nouzha Alaoui; General Mangaer of the La Maison de l'Artisan, Tarik Sadik; and Director of the International Mugham Center, esteemed tar artist Sahib Pashazade.
On this occasion, HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa followed presentations highlighting renowned artists of Mugham, a refined and traditional Azerbaijani music genre, as well as national musical instruments such as the tar, kamancha, and daf.
This visit provided Her Royal Highness the opportunity to learn about the International Mugham Center’s key efforts in training, musical archive preservation, and raising awareness among younger generations about this intangible heritage.
Her Royal Highness later attended a traditional Mugham music concert held in Her honor. The performance, enriched with folkloric dances by youth groups, showcased the expressive richness and spiritual depth of this musical tradition, carried by Azerbaijan’s emblematic instruments.
On this occasion, Her Royal Highness, presented, as per Azerbaijani tradition, a bouquet of flowers to the artists and youth groups who took part in the concert.
At the close of this artistic performance, Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa posed for a commemorative photo with the artists and youth groups, as well as with Alim Qasimov, the most famous performer of the Mugham art form, who was awarded the prestigious "IMC-UNESCO International Music Prize" in 1999.
Through this visit, Her Royal Highness sought to underline the importance of preserving and transferring heritage arts, as true witnesses to the history and soul of peoples.
