Lisbon, May 2, 2025 (Lusa) - According to a note from the executive chairman sent to employees on Friday, to which Lusa had access, Monday's power outage led TAP to cancel 156 flights and operate 23 with a delay of more than two hours.
"In total, 156 flights were cancelled, 23 operated with a delay of more than two hours, three flights were diverted, and 16 were rescheduled," reads Luís Rodrigues' internal message, which highlights the airline's "exemplary" response to a "highly complex and unpredictable" scenario.
On Monday, a large-scale power failure affected the Iberian Peninsula and part of France, jeopardising the functioning of air traffic control and airport operations at several airports. The impact was particularly severe at Lisbon Airport, which serves as a hub for several TAP flights.
"This event was very challenging, but TAP is now able to respond with a focus on its customers and, after just 24 hours, has recovered the reliability of its operation," the executive chairman noted.
In addition, after just one day, TAP was already implementing a plan to protect affected passengers. This plan included increasing flight capacity by hiring aircraft with crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI), and some extra flights in the TAP fleet to ensure that our passengers "reach their final destinations this week".
In his message thanking the employees for their contribution, Luís Rodrigues stressed the "critical importance of a robust, resilient and capable operations centre to survive" the adversities of recent days.
"Thanks to continuous investment in human capital, technological infrastructure and processes, the IOC [Integrated Operations Centre] ensured that it remained fully operational, without any impact from the power failure," he said.
