Gavião, Portugal, April 15, (Lusa) - The Museum of Horse and Carriage Art in Gavião, in the district of Portalegre, will be inaugurated in the building of a former seminary on the 25th, in an investment of around €2 million, it was announced on Tuesday.
Speaking to the Lusa news agency, the mayor of Gavião, José Pio, explained that the four-storey former seminary building has been refurbished by the municipality to house the museum.
"The museum is located in Largo do Município and has four floors. The first two floors are for hose-drawn carriages" and will house 16 of them, he revealed.
The other two floors will house an art collection, which includes artefacts related to horses and carriages.
"This collection will not be available until 10 May," the mayor warned.
As well as this, the museum will also have an exhibition of sacred art, among other pieces, donated by the collector Carlos Vences.
According to José Pio, the inauguration of the Gavião Horse and Art Museum will take place from 11 a.m. on 25 April.
The project, said the mayor, involved an investment of around "two million euros", "about 80%" of which was financed by EU funds.
