Cascais, Portugal, March 23, 2025 (Lusa) - As of Sunday, Portugal's incumbent train operator, CP, is altering the train times at peak times on the Cascais line to respond to "existing constraints", by increasing the number of trains to every 15 minutes.
In a statement, CP - Comboios de Portugal said that the number of trains on the line between Lisbon and Cascais "at peak times will be every 15 minutes, with eight trains per hour, four each way".
The company explained that since the timetable was reinstated on the rail link last December, there have been "difficulties in fulfilling the expectation of quality of service created with the customer" and, therefore, "in conjunction with IP [Infraestruturas de Portugal], it has reformulated the parameters of the commercial offer in order to meet the existing constraints".
The change is "temporary" and "should be in force until the end of the first half of the year", with the aim of "mitigating the impact caused by the modernisation works on the line", which are the responsibility of IP, and "by the works on the Circular Line at Cais do Sodré, which are the responsibility of Metropolitano de Lisboa".
CP believes that the solution will "improve train punctuality and customer confidence in the service provided since delays will be minimised and reliability rates improved". It will also stabilise the boarding and alighting lines at Cais do Sodré and improve customer information.
For the railway company, the new supply model "enables better operational management of resources" and "will be able to accommodate demand in all time slots".
