Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Airports handle almost 70M passengers in 2024, 4.3% more than 2023

Lisbon, Feb. 9, 2025 (Lusa) - Portuguese airports handled almost 69.2 million passengers last year, an increase of 4.3% compared to 2023, with the concessionaire ANA's revenues reaching almost €1.3 billion, according to figures released by Vinci.

In a presentation on its 2024 results, Vinci highlighted the increase in passengers in Portugal, with more than 35 million of the total travelling to Lisbon.

According to the same presentation by the company, which owns ANA, last year, out of a total of €4.52 billion in revenue in the airport segment, 28% belonged to ANA, or €1.27 billion.

In 2023, Vinci counted close to €110 billion in revenues from ANA (28% of €3.95 billion in total).

According to Vinci, last year ANA's EBITDA (earnings before taxes, interest, depreciation and amortisation) represented 30% of the total of €2.88- billion in the airports segment, or around €865 million.

On 17 January, the government informed ANA Aeroportos that it wants it to go ahead with the bid for the new airport at Campo de Tiro de Alcochete, and said that the concessionaire's proposal does not include a direct contribution from the state budget.

This decision comes after ANA delivered its initial report on 17 December, with the conditions for going ahead with the construction of Luís de Camões Airport, which does not provide for a direct contribution from the state budget, "in full alignment with the government in this regard".

ANA was sold to the French company Vinci in 2012 for around €3 billion.
