The government will allocate 37 million euros through the Recovery Fund to municipalities in Greece to carry out energy upgrades in kindergartens and primary schools in their area, through the ‘Athena’ program. 

Minister of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports Kyriakos Pierrakakis said in a post on social media that "upgrading the school environment is a priority of the Greek government.".

"The 'Athena' program makes our schools greener, which will inspire our children on environmental issues and which will translate in the long run into a significant saving of energy and financial resources," he noted. 

Finally, he stressed that there will be close cooperation with the Ministry of Environment & Energy and its leadership so that the program can be implemented "as quickly as possible, supporting in practice every aspect of everyday school life".
