Greece remains the most popular holiday destination for Finns, showing a steady upward trend in their preferences in recent years. This was confirmed at the international tourism fair MATKA travel fair 2025, held in Helsinki from 16 to 19 January. The Greek National Tourism Organisation (GNTO) participated in the fair with a 60 sqm stand, attracting a large number of visitors.
Finnish interest in visiting Crete, Rhodes, and the Cyclades remains strong. However, a large number of visitors were also looking for information about new destinations in Northern Greece, Thessaly, and the Peloponnese, where they can combine nature and sea activities.
There was also significant interest in destinations for family and winter holidays, camping, while interest in city break destinations such as Athens and Thessaloniki remained stable.
According to figures released by the Finnish T.O.s Association "Smal.fi" on 14 January, in 2024, more than 650,000 packages were made to destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Greece has held the top position as the most popular destination for Finns for many years. Almost 225,000 tourist packages were made to Greece, an increase of 7.4% compared to 2023.
The Ambassador of Greece to Finland Natalia Karageorgou visited the GNTO stand at the tourism exhibition. B2B meetings were also held on the sidelines of the exhibition.
