Registered unemployment totaled 977,687 persons in December 2024, down 6% from December 2023 and up 1.6% in comparison with November 2024, Public Employment Service said in a report released on Monday.

The report said that a 46.9% of registered unemployed (458,437) were long-term unemployed, while 353,472 (36.2%) were men and 624,215 (63.8%) women.

The 30-44 age group recorded the highest number of unemployed (308,257 or 31.5%).

Among the country's regions, Attica and Central Macedonia recorded the highest numbers (290,852 and 180,809, respectively). The number of people receiving unemployment benefits totaled 262,548 in December 2024.
