Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stocks close higher, buoyed by EDP, Galp

Lisbon, Jan. 14, 2025 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market ended the session on a high today, with EDP and Galp standing out in the gains for the second day running and the PSI index rising 0.73% to 6,376.82 points.

Of the 15 listed companies that make up the Lisbon stock market's benchmark index, 11 rose, two fell and two remained unchanged.

EDP rose 1.61% to €3.09 and Galp advanced 1.22% to €16.55. In the previous session, the two shares had recorded the biggest gains on the PSI.

On Monday, EDP announced the issue of senior ‘green’ debt totalling €750 million, maturing in July 2031 and with a coupon of 3.5%, according to a statement to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

Sonae rose 1.01% to €0.90, Altri rose 0.96% to €5.26 and EDP Renováveis rose 0.88% to €9.16.

Among the shares with gains of less than 0.70% were REN (€2.31), Mota-Engil (€2.73), BCP (€0.48) and Jerónimo Martins (€18.42).

On the downside, Semapa fell 0.42% to €14.30 and Corticeira Amorim dropped 0.13% to €7.91, while Ibersol (€7.60) and CTT were unchanged from the previous session.

In the rest of Europe, Milan rose 0.93%, Frankfurt 0.69%, Madrid 0.55%, and Paris 0.20%, but London fell 0.28%.
