ZAGREB, 22 Dec (Hina) - Croatia Airlines (CA) received its second new Airbus A220-300, with a capacity of 149 seats, in Zagreb on Friday, continuing its fleet renewal project that began on 30 July this year with the arrival of the first of a total of 15 new Airbus A220 aircraft.
The second Airbus A220 arrived directly from the Airbus factory in Mirabel, Canada, and was accepted at the company’s technical centre at Zagreb Airport, where all necessary preparations will be made for its inclusion in regular flight operations. The newest aircraft of Croatia Airlines is registered as 9A-CAI and has been named Split, the national carrier said in a press release.
Following the inclusion of the first two new A220 aircraft in the fleet this year, Croatia Airlines expects the delivery of the next six new A220 aircraft in 2025, four in 2026, and three in 2027. This will bring the fleet to a total of 15 new A220 aircraft, of which 13 will be A220-300 (with a capacity of 149 seats) and two A220-100 (with a capacity of 127 seats), CA said.
As stated in the press release, the Airbus A220 is a new generation aircraft, designed as a completely new product offering the best performance in terms of efficiency and noise emissions. Designed for the market segment of passenger aircraft with 100 to 150 seats, the A220 has a range of up to 3,600 nautical miles (6,700 km). It is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1500 GTF turbofan engines of the latest generation. CA says that it consumes 25% less fuel and emits 25% less carbon dioxide per passenger seat compared to previous-generation passenger aircraft.
