Lisbon, Nov. 28, 2024 (Lusa) - Spanish petrol company Petroprix wants to open 50 petrol stations in Portugal by 2026, with a total investment of €25 million, to take advantage of "a clear opportunity in the Portuguese fuel market", the company told Lusa.
With three petrol stations in operation (Águeda, Covilhã and Matosinhos), Petroprix's expansion plan in Portugal is to open twenty new stations next year, prioritising "the north and interior of the country, with a progressive expansion to Greater Lisbon and the south", an official source from the company told Lusa, which is currently analysing 80 projects, "from Vila Nova de Gaia and Paços de Ferreira to Estarreja or Sintra".
"The average investment per station is €500,000, representing an estimated total of €25 million by 2026," explains the company, which opened its third station this week.
Portugal was chosen as the first market for internationalisation due to its "geographical and cultural proximity to Spain", which, it says, "makes the process more agile, but the main thing was to identify a clear opportunity in the Portuguese fuel market".
"Consumers are increasingly sensitive to price and the low-cost model, and Petroprix has the tools to offer a high-quality service at the best price," he says.
Petroprix's goal is to become "a benchmark in the low-cost segment, reaching 3% of the national market by 2028. It's an ambitious project.
Petroprix petrol stations rely on a fully automated service model, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Founded ten years ago, in 2023 the company exceeded €750 million in sales, doubling the previous year's figure.
