Lisbon, Nov. 15, 2024 (Lusa) - The number of passengers transported rose in 2023 in all modes of transport, with an increase of 10.1% by road, 16.7% by rail, 20.7% by metro, 18.9% by air and 21.5% by river, according to INE.
According to the Transport and Communications Statistics, published today by Statistics Porugal (INE), 200.3 million passengers were transported by train last year, which represents an increase of 16.7%, after having risen 42.2% in 2022.
Passenger transport by metro increased by 20% compared to 2022, to a total of 263.2 million passengers, after having grown by 58.6% in 2022.
The Lisbon Metro carried 165.9 million passengers, up 21.3% on the previous year, while the Porto Metro totalled 79.2 million, up 21.4%, and the Metro Sul do Tejo grew by 11.9%, carrying 18.1 million passengers.
