Lisbon, Nov. 13, 2024 (Lusa) - According to the monthly barometer of the Forum of Business Administrators and Managers (FAE), Portuguese managers' optimism remained "relatively stable" in October, but the "international situation" once again topped the list of concerns, to the detriment of "Government and politics."
"In the October Managers" Barometer, we once again see a “shift” in the concerns of Portuguese managers from “government and politics” (33.7% to 17.1%) to the “international situation” (11.2% to 28.3%), going back to the August figures, given the international situation," concludes the study, released today.
Alongside the "international situation", concerns about "hiring and retaining talent" (from 13.3% to 19.5%) and the "inflation rate" (from 1.1% to 2.7%) also increased.
Falling in line with "government and politics" were concerns about "interest rates" (from 3.4% to 0.9%), "corruption" (from 5.6% to 3.5%) and "digitalisation, technological disruption" (from 9% to 4%).
Managers' other concerns remained “relatively stable” in October, namely those relating to “legislation and regulation” (7.9% to 8%), “taxes and taxation” (9% to 9.7%), “logistics chains, supply” (2.3% to 1.8%), and “competition and business model” (3.4% to 3.5%).
Managers' optimism remained “relatively stable” in the month under review, registering a “slight increase” from 2.27 to 2.74, but it has remained negative since September 2023.
Launched in September 2021, the Monthly Barometer of Portuguese Managers is based on a monthly inquiry to FAE members about what worries them most for the next 12 months, including their level of optimism and pessimism.
With the responses - usually between 170 and 210 - the Forum builds a monthly barometer that indicates the evolution of Portuguese managers' concerns and optimism every month and over a long series.
The FAE has been the representative association of managers since 1979. Its members include the directors and managers of the largest Portuguese companies, including 12 CEOs of the current PSI.
