Lisbon, Nov. 5, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market maintained its opening trend on Tuesday morning, with shares mostly trading lower, and with NOS down 2.67% to €3.46 but BCP up 1.62% to €0.46.
At around 9.35 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmkar PSI (Portugal Stock Index) was down 0.06% to 6,581.05 points, with five shares falling, eight rising and two remaining unchanged (Ibersol at €7.40 and Semapa at €14.22).
NOS shares were followed by Jerónimo Martins, Corticeira Amorim and EDP Renováveis, which fell 1.35% to €18.26, 1.06% to €8.40 and 1.01% to €12.69.
EDP, CTT and Galp shares fell 0.27% to €3.63, 0.23% to €4.33 and 0.16% to €16.08.
In the opposite direction and lagging BCP, Mota-Engil, Sonae and REN shares rose, namely by 1.10% to €2.56, by 0.76% to €0.92 and by 0.22% to €2.31.
More moderately, Altri shares rose 0.20% to €5.07.
The main European stock markets were up on Tuesday, pending the day's presidential and congressional elections in the US, with the distribution of power in the Senate and the House of Representatives also key.
On the agenda for the day, in addition to the unemployment figures for Spain, which have already been released, investors will also be paying attention to the final PMI (purchasing managers' index) figures for the UK, while in the US the ISM Services PMI figures for October will also be published, which may be moderate.
Wall Street futures rose slightly after the New York Stock Exchange ended overall in the red on Monday.
In commodities, a barrel of Brent crude oil for delivery in January 2025 opened higher on Tuesday, at $75.23 on London's Intercontinental Exchange Futures (ICE), compared to $75.08 on Monday.
US crude benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was up 0.28% to $71.67 a barrel before the market officially opened.
The price of gold fell by 0.14% today, with the price per ounce standing at $2,733.
The yield on Germany's 10-year government bond, considered Europe's benchmark, rose to 2.412%, compared to 2.404% in the previous session.
On the currency front, the euro opened stronger at $1.0892 on the Frankfurt exchange, compared to $1.0889 on Monday.
