Lusa - Business News - Angola: Rail link to new airport scheduled to start on 7 November

Luanda, Oct. 29, 2024 (Lusa) - Rail traffic between Bungo (Luanda) and António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) will start on 7 November, three days before passenger flights at the new airport are scheduled to start.

According to a statement from the Luanda Railway (CFL), the 60-minute journey traffic will run from 04:00 to 22:00 with an express service specially dedicated to passengers travelling to the airport.

The new railway line, with five stations, runs for around 40 kilometres and was built to improve mobility between Luanda city centre and the municipality of Icolo e Bengo, where Angola's new international airport is located, replacing the 04 de Fevereiro Airport.

CFL is creating a corporate monthly pass with discounts for employees of all companies and entities associated with AIAAN and plans to launch a monthly rail pass for suburban passenger trains and the line serving the airport by Thursday 31 October.

AIAAN's operations are scheduled to begin on 10 November, with four daily frequencies operated on the Luanda-Cabinda route by Angolan flag carrier TAAG.

António Agostinho Neto International Airport covers a total area of 75 square kilometres and has been designed to receive 15 million passengers a year and 130,000 tonnes of cargo.
