JIJEL–The volume of commercial exchanges through the Djen Djen Port, in Jijel, has reached around eight million tons of goods since the beginning of the current year, said the port’s CEO, Abdeslam Bouab, on Tuesday.

"The port aims to reach 10 million tons of exports by the end of 2024," Bouab told APS on the sidelines of a meeting dedicated to assessing non-hydrocarbon exports at Djen Djen Port, organized by the port company at the Omar Oussedik Cultural Center in Jijel, in the presence of several economic operators.

The same official said that the port had been reinforced with several wide-ranging equipment to "increase and speed up the processing of goods," noting that an amount of DZD2 billion has been allocated to the acquisition of various port equipment "in order to increase the value of non-hydrocarbon exports."

For his part, Deputy General Manager of the Algerian-Qatari Steel Company in Bellara, Sofiane Chaib Setti, said that the company is "one of the most active trade players at Djen Djen Port."

The Algerian Qatari Steel company "plans to reach an export volume of around 800,000 tons of steel by the end of the current year, with a value of nearly USD480 million.”
