Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market closes red for second day running, down 0.62%

Lisbon, Oct. 18, 2024 (Lusa) - For the second day running, the Lisbon stock market bucked the rises registered by most European stock markets and saw its main benchmark index (PSI) fall 0.62% to 6,673.90 points.

In a session in which 13 of the 16 shares ended lower and three higher, Mota-Engil led the declines (-2.27% to €2.59), after having led the gains over the last two days.

Galp (-1.66% to €16.55), Jerónimo Martins (-1.45% to €16.95) and EDP Renováveis (-1.06% to €13.95) also fell the most.

EDP Renováveis' renewable production grew “at a moderate rate of 5%" in the first nine months of the year, a figure in line with the first half of the year, according to a note released on Thursday by the Portuguese Securities Market Commission (CMVM).

Among the listed companies with drops of less than 1% were Sonae (€0.93), CTT (€4.28), EDP (€3.90), Corticeira Amorim (€8.87) and Altri (€5.13).

Semapa (up 0.82% to €14.82), Ibersol (up 0.55% to €7.26) and BCP (up 0.09% to €0.43) held back a sharper fall in the benchmark PSI (Portugal Share Index).

In the rest of Europe, Milan rose 0.47%, Paris 0.39%, Frankfurt 0.38% and Madrid 0.17%, but London followed Lisbon in the declines and fell 0.32%.
