The Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA) and the Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) signed, on June 6, 2024 in Palermo (Italy), a cooperation agreement to promote professional cooperation.
The agreement was inked by FAAPA President, Director-General of Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP), Fouad Arif, and AMAN President, CEO of Italian National Associated Press Agency (ANSA), Stefano De Alessandri, on the sidelines of the 32nd AMAN General Assembly.
The document provides for assisting their members in professional cooperation in the interest of strengthening relations between FAAPA and AMAN.
Through this agreement, FAAPA and AMAN undertake to keep each other informed about the developments within their respective regions and provide with copies of documents of mutual interest that are made public by both parties.
The two professional organizations will grant each other the status of observer, as well as invite up to two representatives to attend the General Assemblies of the other Party, with no right to vote on the discussed issues.
FAAPA and AMAN shall also grant each other access to their respective websites, in accordance with the terms of this agreement, which also stipulates that each party will assist the other in the development of its website and services.
The 32nd AMAN General Assembly is taking place in Palermo, with the participation of managing directors and representatives of the alliance's member news agencies, including MAP.
The Assembly will be marked by a conference on the theme of “Energy and tourism for sustainable development in the Mediterranean”, which will provide an opportunity for participants to highlight the contribution of AMAN member press agencies in promoting this theme.
Also on the agenda for the 32nd General Assembly are organizational matters, including the presentation of the outgoing AMAN president's report, the adoption of the financial report and the election of the alliance's new executive committee.
