The Director General of the Maghreb Arab Press Agency (MAP), Fouad Arif, met, on September 30, 2024 at MAP headquarters in Rabat, with a high-level Palestinian media delegation led by Minister Ahmad Assaf, General Supervisor of Official Media in the State of Palestine.
Talks, attended by the Palestinian Ambassador to Rabat, Jamal Al-Shobaki, focused on strengthening cooperation between MAP and the Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA), building on the longstanding relationship between the two agencies, solidified through several bilateral agreements.
In his remarks, Arif commended the strong and historic ties between the two media institutions, emphasizing the importance of expanding collaboration through the exchange of expertise, joint visits, and journalist training programs.
He underlined MAP’s readiness to share its extensive experience with WAFA to bolster bilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges, particularly in the face of the growing phenomenon of fake news and the technological revolution reshaping the media landscape. Arif also expressed MAP’s openness to new ideas, initiatives, and proposals that would enhance this fruitful partnership, aligning with the aspirations of both organizations.
For his part, Assaf said this meeting opens promising opportunities for both agencies, highlighting the rapid evolution of the media sector and expressing his desire to benefit from MAP’s extensive experience in covering national and international events.
Praising MAP’s regional, continental, and international standing, Assaf acknowledged the agency as a leading source of reliable news in the region.
He also expressed hope that WAFA could benefit from MAP’s strategic position, particularly through its leadership role in organizations like the Atlantic Federation of African Press Agencies (FAAPA).
