Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Government support to companies hit by fires increased to €300,000

Lisbon, Oct. 17, 2024 (Lusa) — Portugal's minister of the presidency announced on Thursday that Portugal's cabinet decided on Thursday to increase the ceiling of support for companies affected by the fires from €200,000 to €300,000.

One of the pieces of legislation the cabinet approved today concerns ‘support for companies affected by disasters’, and the government has changed the general regime to include fires, said the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, at the end of the cabinet meeting.

The government decided to increase the maximum limit of this support for companies from €200,000 to €300,000, an increase of 50%.

The minister also announced the approval of an expenditure of €331 million, to be used over 20 years, for landscape management operations, i.e. those that alter and reconfigure the forest.

The Environmental Fund will finance this amount.

‘When we go through a catastrophe like this we have to look to the future and take measures to prevent it [...]. He emphasised that we can't spend our time looking back and complaining about forest reform.
