Lisbon, Oct. 10, 2029 (Lusa) - Turnover in services in Portugal recorded a year-on-year increase of 5.6% in August, after having grown by 3.8% in July, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Thursday.
In August, the turnover index in services showed "year-on-year growth of 5.6%, a rate 1.8 percentage points (p.p.) higher than the previous month", explains INE.
The statistics office also says that consultancy, scientific, technical and similar activities increased by 14.9% in the period under review, compared to a growth of 8.4% in July, and this was the section that contributed the most (2.2 p.p.) to the rise in the total index.
Transport and storage went from a year-on-year increase of 1.8% in July to 6.2% in August, resulting in the second largest contribution (1.6 p.p.) to the growth of the aggregate index.
Accommodation, food services and similar made a contribution of 0.8 p.p. due to the 4% year-on-year increase in August, 1.7 p.p. less than in the previous year.
Accommodation, for its part, rose by 6% (3.4% in July) and catering and similar went from a growth of 7.2% in July to a 2.7% increase in the month under review.
Administrative activities and support services also made a positive contribution (0.7 p.p.) to the progress of the total index, as a result of the year-on-year rise of 3.9% in August, compared to the 6% growth in July, according to INE.
Real estate activities, on the other hand, grew by 18.2% year-on-year in August, contributing 0.8 p.p. to the total index.
Information and communication activities, on the other hand, recorded the only negative contribution (-0.5 p.p.), due to the year-on-year fall of 2.9%, i.e. a rate 1.5 p.p. lower than that recorded in the previous period.
In monthly terms, the turnover index grew by 1.2% in August, after falling by 1% in July.
